This is a map of the former Yugoslavia where I was born on May 20, 1944. It was a time when the Second World War was just about to end.
I was born on a boat called Galeb on the beautiful, blue Adriatic Sea between the two ancient cities of Split and Dubrovnik. I was born two months premature.
After I was christened as Rudolf Ferenc, my parents and sister settled in Zrenjanin, a city in Vojvodina which was a region under Serbian control. It was here that I spent most of my childhood.
